During U.S. President Barack Obama’s work visit to Malaysia in April 2014, Malaysia expressed its interest in joining the U.S. Visa Waiver Program, and Obama agreed to consider it. Malaysia’s Home Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, has said that if accepted into the U.S. Visa Waiver Program, Malaysians could see themselves enter the United States of America sans visa in less than 2 years.
The Visa Waiver Program allows citizens to travel the US without a visa for a duration of less than 90 days. So far, 37 countries have participated in the program, including Brunei, Singapore, Taiwan and Japan.
