Alternative Summer Break (ASB) is a three days – two nights retreat for Malaysian students centered around community service engagement, organized by US East Coast Presidential Council (EPIC) with the support of Education Malaysia Washington DC and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs ). This program provides our students with a first-hand perspective of challenges faced by local communities that many overlook in the bubble of university campuses. Such experiences and exposure to effort conducted by NGOs to alleviate these challenges will provide insights into identifying challenges faced in Malaysia, and best practices in improving social welfare.

ASB is set to establish a sense of communal responsibility and assist in fostering a spirit of togetherness in nation-building. ASB also seeks to enable Malaysian students across the United States to expand their network. We believe bringing a group of passionate Malaysians together will enable a discourse of challenges, exchange of ideas and formation of strong relationships that will continue to foster as they come together in giving back to communities around them.

ASB enables Malaysian students to explore and learn from local communities and organizations in order to further the strive to bring our nation to greater heights.
