New SEVP Rules for International Students & Information Collection Initiative

Dear Malaysian students,

Please reach out to your academic advisors & International Office for latest updates on this issue, and connect with your respective MASA for them to forward it to NAMSA. EMWDC will be able to facilitate this with NAMSA and other Malaysian students sponsorship agencies.

On 6th July 2020, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced changes to exemptions on online courses and international students previously allowed by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP).
NAMSA is aware that such changes have led to many Malaysian students finding themselves unable to satisfy visa requirements and may not be allowed to enter or remain in the US. The full ICE announcement can be found HERE.
At the moment, we are waiting for clarifications from the relevant authorities on how these changes will play out. In the meantime, NAMSA highly encourages all Malaysian students to refer to your respective university and await further instructions from them.

Additionally, to allow us to better understand how to provide assistance, NAMSA is currently collecting information on the actions taken by each university to help their international students. Therefore, we would like to request a representative from each university (preferably the President of the Malaysian Student Association) to fill up the following form (link below). This form should only be filled up whenever the school has announced a new or changed an existing policy for the Fall 2020 semester and/or for international students.
As always, please do contact us, Education Malaysia Washington D.C, or the Embassy of Malaysia should you require any assistance. Thank you for your cooperation!
